"You can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamn contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees, over the sandstone and through the thornbrush and cactus. When traces of blood begin to mark your trail, you'll see something, maybe." ~ Ed Abbey

5 Gas Saving Tips

December 22, 2006

You have finished buying gifts for your family and friends and now you're broke. Now what? Well, here are some gas saving tips you can use that just might pull you out of the red this holiday season:

1. Drive smartly

Many car owners don't know this but by simply driving efficiently, they can save a lot of money. Driving at a moderate pace can improve your gas mileage by up to 37% so avoid aggressive driving and observe legal speed limits.

2. Tune up regularly

Change your oil and air filters when needed, and use only motor oil recommended by the car manufacturer. Make sure that your tires are properly inflated to improve traction on the road and reduce strain on your engines.

3. Lighten the load

Remember that the heavier the car, the more gas it consumes so get rid of the bulky and unnecessary items from the trunk or inside your car. As a bonus, your car will look tidier without the clutter.

4. Plan your trip

A longer trip combining several errands lessens the times you need to warm up your car's engine and this will definitely save you time and money.

5. Walk

The surest way to save gas is not driving your car so when your destination is only a block away, just walk. The exercise will do you good.

So there you have it folks. If you know other fuel saving tips, put them on the comment section.

Happy Christmas everyone!
